I thought I would try creating another dragonfly.  I have experimented with other colors using tissue paper.  When I complete the print I'll put it up.  I think I like the other color variation better.

Nocturnal Visitor #1 - Original Collagraph of Raccoon

I've seen a few raccoons around over the years. Last year I managed to witness a mother moving four of her kits or cubs (not clear which word is correct).  Very sweet.

This is a male painted bunting.  Apparently the females are bright green.  These guys don't live in my part of the world and I don't think that I have ever seen one in person.  Love the vibrant color.

Okay I have been a bit busy.  This summer I finished two collagraph versions of  Todd's black and white drawing done in 2011.  As in "Bird, Badger and Chameleon" I tried using textures that equated to the different values in his drawing.   To get a better idea of what's going on please click on each image. Yellow-Bellied Sapsucker #1 - Collagraph of Small Male Woodpecker

A new addition to my bird series with attitude.  I haven't seen any of these small woodpeckers here in St. Louis, but it appears that it is possible. Apparently the red throat is the tell-tale sign that this is a male. As with my most recent Cardinal piece I printed four- to five-textured layers of color on the background.

Northern Cardinal #36 - Collagraph of Red Bird

This is a new variation of Mister Cardinal.  I needed to create a new black and white plate and tried out some different textures.  Obviously the background is darker and I have printed a number of layers of texture over the initial blue.  I may need to try printing another round of texture on the background, but this is it for the moment.  Please click on the image to get a larger view.

Mortimer - Poodle Mix Dog

Well here's Mortimer.  I just met him the other day and he is a very sweet dog.  He looks to me to be a miniature golden doodle and was told that he is possibly a bichon mix.  Anyway I think my two black labs intimidated him a bit because he was very ready to leave.

One of my customers commissioned me to do a collagraph of this funny little bird.  I think I have only seen white-breasted nuthatches here in Missouri and had figured that one day I would do a collagraph of one of those guys hanging upside down on a tree (which still may happen).  But for now here's my version of the red-breasted female.

Dive Bomber #1 (Collagraph of Northern Mockingbird)

When I was in high school a Northern Mockingbird would dive bomb me while I was mowing the grass.  He or she would come so close to my head I thought I needed to do something to protect myself.  My solution was to wear a large sombrero.  I'm sure anyone passing by found me to be rather entertaining.

Pretty in Pink (Original Collagraph of Calf and Pig)

Okay . . . here are the stages this print went through. I really found the faces of these two guys just too much. Now I am wondering if this is another one of those . . . what was I thinking moments???? I'm not sure if the colored background is right for this piece. I may need to change it. It does need some color in the background, just don't know if the yellow and blue work with the overall feeling.
