Cheeto #1 - Original Collagraph - Pit Bull Mix

Recently I was asked to create a portrait of a stray rescue animal for the upcoming Urban Wanderers art show & auction.  I asked if it would be okay to do a portrait of Cheeto, a stray rescue dog who was adopted by some good friends of mine a couple of years ago. I did several variations of this character, but this version seems to be the favorite.

You've Got to be Kidding #1 - Original Collagraph

I saw this guy at a farm late last spring. Needless to say he had a lot of character so I thought I would attempt creating a collagraph of him as he peered over the fence. Arthur Osver would have called this print one of my "whipping posts" since I have modified the background many times. I think I will leave it here for now. On to something else.

Black-capped Chickadee on Orange #1 (original collagraph of bird)

If you are interested in more background information on this piece please read the information provided with the black and white version in the preceding post. Since I created a new plate for the black and white version I couldn't stop there.  I started with a yellow background and then created another plate to print an orange texture on top of the yellow. I found the orange to be a bit much so I created another plate and printed a yellow texture on top of the orange.

Black-capped Chickadee #2 (original black and white bird collagraph)

A number of years ago I created two color versions of a chickadee. The original background was blue and later I experimented with a green background. Recently one of my clients requested a black and white version. As a result I decided to create a new plate using some old and new textures in the hopes that the black and white version would stand on its own.

Widget #1 - Original Collagraph of Sleeping Cat

I guess I have been preoccupied with other things these days.  This is a portrait of my sister's cat started 6 months ago and finally completed about a month ago. I shot the photo last year during my annual visit to the east coast. I loved the pose and all those crazy polka dots.
I managed to ship a Widget collagraph to the Rappahannock Art League in order for it to be included in their 2016 Labor Day Show. Ironically the piece won a blue ribbon and a cash prize. Pleasant surprise.

Nocturnal Visitor #1 - Original Collagraph of Raccoon

I've seen a few raccoons around over the years. Last year I managed to witness a mother moving four of her kits or cubs (not clear which word is correct).  Very sweet.

Holsteins Taking A Break (Black and White Collagraph of Two Cows)

During the summer I spent pretty much time in upstate New York as a teenager. Our property was surrounded by dairy farms so I remember seeing a lot of these guys (oops . . . girls). The farmers would come up the hill to bring the cows in for milking at 4AM. Based on my sleeping habits I guess I could have become a farmer.

I recently participated in the Open Studio Event presented by the Contemporary Art Museum. One of the people I met asked if I had ever done a pug. It has been in the back of my mind for some time so I guess that gave me a push. Both of these have some hand coloring. I think I prefer the black and white version. The image size is 7.25" x 9.5". I did a monotype of this hummingbird several years ago and have always wanted to do a version as a collagraph. Back then I wasn't sure how to make it work. Because of all my other bird prints I managed to come up with this.

I couldn't resist doing something with this pose which

reminded me of the Cardinal I did late last year.

Here's the color version. I tried not to go too crazy with color.

I printed the color on the background and hand painted the crab.

I'm still experimenting with my process. I started out printing some

of the color.  Then I printed the black, followed by some hand coloring
